The Mission

Full Well Therapy exists…

  • as a safe space for Asian Americans and others who feel misunderstood, unseen, unsafe, shamed, or stigmatized in the mental health world.

  • so we can acknowledge that Asian mental health matters.

  • to create a space where our cultural identities and backgrounds are honored and are a part of our healing.

  • to provide a compassionate, safe, judgment-free space for us to explore our mental health, history, culture, background, and relationships.

  • to provide holistic support to experience self compassion, inner peace, and enriching relationships, in a way that makes sense in our own contexts.

The Story

When I was a young therapist, Asian American focused therapy was not prevalent in the field of mental health. I remember experiences with other therapists that left me feeling unseen, and even silenced, in my cultural history and background. Of being the only person of color in a room full of other therapists, not seeing my culture considered in any trainings, and feeling pathologized for my cultural history and norms.

As Asian Americans, our histories, our families, our cultures, our unique burdens, and our languages are integral parts of who we are. But unfortunately, the standard of “wellness,” “health,” and therapy continue to be based on standards of the dominant culture, discounting our experiences, understandings, and ideas.

While thankfully the mental health landscape has changed over the years, it largely remains the reality that the field of mental health still has a long way to go before marginalized communities can feel completely welcome. That, coupled with the stigma and shame that we face in our Asian communities, therapy for Asian Americans can feel trickier than ever.

But that doesn’t mean therapy isn’t for us. As a young therapist, I decided - if the field of mental health doesn’t have room for someone like me, a neurodivergent Asian American immigrant woman, I was going to create it. So others like me can have a place to go, a place that I wish I had back then. There is a place for us in the world of therapy, we just need to create it and claim it.

The Hope

And so I created Full Well Therapy. So that there will be a safe and welcoming place for us to go.

It is genuinely such a joy for me to share what I’ve created with you. I am so proud to be able to offer a space where our identities, cultures, and backgrounds are seen. No matter who you are, you are welcome here. Thank you for being a part of the hope.
